Some of the relevant brands in the PC market are little by little taking care of the professional sector with robust equipment that is well prepared for tasks for which a classic ultrabook is not prepared.
If we talk about creative multimedia professionals, the Acer ConceptD 7 is one of the first models in the catalog of the ConceptD family, one of the independent branches of Acer together with the Predator series for gamers.

Clean and consistent white design
Acer has wanted not only the technical sheet or some peculiarities in the type of device to be the distinctive sign of its ConceptD series. It has given it a distinct appearance from the rest of its portfolio of laptops and peripherals through design.
The Acer ConceptD 7 stands out at first glance for its design in pristine white tone. In the photos the appearance may seem more discreet and far from a noble finish pattern, but nothing could be further from the truth.
The material of manufacture of the casing and part of the keyboard is aluminum . Only the display frame is finished in plastic. We are, therefore, before a team that transmits a broad and forceful feeling of quality and robustness , while the white tone gives it differentiation and elegance.
The design of the case has an eminently classic cut but we notice certain more aggressive licenses such as the angled edges and especially the ventilation outlets.
The Acer ConceptD 7 is a laptop with a 15.6-inch screen and a strong interior, so the weight is somewhat far from what we can enjoy in an ultrabook. Despite this, we are talking about a team of contained weight, 2.1 kg , and quite manageable.
Expanded connectivity for professionals
The thickness of the Acer ConceptD 7, which is 1.79 cm, allows the team to enjoy a wide and complete connectivity , very focused on expanding its possibilities at the graphic level. We can have up to three external screens connected to the equipment.
On the right side we find two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type A ports, a mini DisplayPort port and the only USB-C of the laptop, which is USB 3.1 Gen2 and Thunderbolt 3 . As in other equipment of this profile, charging via USB-C is not feasible and we have to resort to the proprietary 180W charger. We also have a Kensington security lock.
On the other side of the laptop we have room for a third USB 3.1 type A port (which supports charging of external devices), the HDMI output, a full Ethernet port and two 3.5 mm connections for audio input and output. Also on this side is the equipment’s proprietary power input.
From the connectivity of this Acer ConceptD 7 we are only surprised by the absence of an integrated card reader. And we also miss an integrated fingerprint reader , something that we almost take for granted in laptops of this level and price.
We do have a webcam that offers video quality at 720p maximum and that only meets the minimum.
Calibrated 4K display: the great value of the Acer ConceptD 7
Finding very powerful laptops ready to perform almost any task even at a professional level is not very strange. Paying more or less you find them. And with good connectivity.
However, the value of laptops for work at home or on the go, when it comes to the multimedia and creative sector, is actually on the panel. And this Acer ConceptD 7 takes special care of it, managing to establish itself as the fundamental pillar of the Acer team.
We are talking about an IPS panel with high brightness of 400 nits , 4K resolution and a coverage of 100% of the Adobe RGB space . It is also a panel with Pantone certification , Delta E <2 and individual calibration that is indicated and associated with the serial number of the equipment.
The 15.6-inch screen of this Acer ConceptD 7 offers us a completely satisfying visual experience with excellent contrast, faithful color reproduction and resolution that allows you to play with both a large workspace and with outstanding sharpness.
Outdoors, although it is not the usual use scenario for this type of equipment, the Acer ConceptD 7 panel also performs very well, especially due to the matte finish of the panel , one of the best we have seen in this type of device.
The panel offers a 60 Hz refresh rate and high response time. Despite its power, it is not a computer that you are going to buy to play although you can do so taking into account these starting conditions at the screen level.
Among the different applications that Acer has included for managing the equipment, there is room for configuring some aspects of the screen. The most prominent is the one that allows us to vary the color profile and choose a native or a personalized one (which includes profiles for cinema, games or eye protection) in case we want a moment of leisure away from the fidelity of the calibration. Adobe RGB.
Careful and powerful sound
On the keyboard we find the main sound system of this Acer ConceptD 7. Here the manufacturer has succeeded in not hiding that element, giving it a certain packaging in appearance and also helping it to achieve a sound that is very well powered and is quite correct in sound quality . Perhaps, for the size of the team, it lacks a little force in the bass.
The sound supports some customization via software through the Waves MaxxAudio suite , applicable to both sound from external speakers and headphones.
Good keyboard which is penalized by the backlight
The keyboard of the Acer ConceptD 7 does not mess with experiments and presents a classic design with some modification such as the divided Enter key.
It comes without a side numeric keypad, giving you plenty of room to develop a comfortable key size that looks great paired with not too long travel and solid stability to give the keyboard assembly a very high level of user experience .
Less excited we have finished with the touchpad. Its operation is also of a high level but we expected a somewhat larger overall size and the physical click is somewhat abrupt and loud. In any case you end up getting used to it soon and it is precise and smooth in movements and gestures.
With such a pure white color throughout the case, the Acer ConceptD 7 didn’t have many tonality alternatives for the keyboard. It’s also white with soft dark silkscreen printing that has excellent viewing during the day but takes a risk when backlighting comes into play .
The tone of that lighting tends to gold / orange and it is an aspect that is difficult to do since the contrast of the letters is greatly reduced, especially with the backlight at its highest level (it is manually adjustable in up to four intensity levels ).
The right performance for creative tasks
The hardware base of the Acer ConceptD 7 had to be at the height of what a consumer needs in a team of this profile. The model that we have analyzed in Engadget is in the middle of the catalog of this series, with a Core i7 9750H Hexa-core processor at 2.60 GHz (common to all ConceptD 7 equipment), Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card with 6 GB , 32 GB of DDR4 RAM and 1 TB SSD storage.
In our benchmarks, this combination of the Acer ConceptD 7 has left us with figures of 3733, 4912 and 4429 in the Home, Creative and Work tests of PCMark 8 respectively. In Cinebench R20, the CPU test scored us on average 2525 points.
In the tests more focused on the graphic section, the SkyDiver test touched 30,000 points while with the 3DMark Time Spy we obtained more than 5,600 points. All the tests were carried out with the equipment connected to the current to achieve the best possible performance, which drops when we are using the battery.
Although as we have advanced in the screen section, the Acer ConceptD 7 is not a team with the focus on the game, its power is not the limitation to enjoy demanding titles even with 4K resolution.
We have tested it with The Witcher 3 to have solid references and we have been able to play an average of more than 24 fps without any problem choosing 4K resolution and graphics at the highest level. If we lower the resolution to 1080p, the experience improves to touch 60 fps in our tests .
As for the SSD, we have indicated that it offers 1 TB of capacity, correct for a team of multimedia aspirations. In the test with CrystaldiskMark it got data of 3285 and 2789 MB / s in sequential mode (read and write respectively), but in the random ones the performance is improved with data of 43 and 108 MB / s in read and write mode respectively.
Excellent cooling system
Being a powerful laptop, component heating and operating noise are two critical aspects and must be paid special attention to. This Acer ConceptD 7 has shown in our tests a very correct behavior in both cases. It has three main air extraction areas: one in the side house and the main one in the rear, from side to side of the equipment.
At the heating level, I was interested in checking if the heat generated that was extracted by the fan on the right side was problematic for, for example, working with a mouse. At full performance of the fans the air is appreciated, but it is far from a temperature that is annoying .
The most surprising thing has been the global temperature of the equipment on the surfaces that we have to touch. The part of the keyboard or under the screen, no matter how much the fans are working or we demand the laptop, they do not change at the temperature level. There is not even a slight warm-up.
All the heat is concentrated in the lower part of the equipment , so the only uncomfortable situation would be the work on the knees.
Regarding noise, the Acer ConceptD 7 is a team that we can consider quite silent in operation , although with demanding tasks the fans logically make an appearance. However, its noise in operation is reduced even at maximum intensity and although noticeable in quiet environments, it is not annoying except in very few exceptions.
The Acer ConceptD 7 we’ve reviewed is available with the Pro version of Windows 10. It doesn’t come with any bloatware except a third-party test antivirus.
What Acer does include is a generous compendium of its own programs to manage different aspects of the computer.
We find from software such as Killer Control Center to manage the connectivity of the equipment to the Acer Care Center to optimize the performance / updates of the equipment, without forgetting the ConceptD Palette , the most important for this equipment and focused on both checking the performance of the system and in configuring aspects of the screen such as the color profile or the division of space.
It is not a team to buy for its autonomy
In a workstation with serious aspirations like this Acer ConceptD 7, autonomy is a value that can be allowed to take a back seat. It is not the priority if we do not want to penalize performance or weight.
The Acer ConceptD 7 enjoys an 86 Wh battery that has to deal with the powerful interior and above all with a high brightness screen and 4K resolution.
In our autonomy tests we have averaged about 5-6 hours of endurance when playing video content (not 4K), dropping to between 2.5 and 3.5 hours in the case of creative tasks with image, video and office automation. If we push it hard, for example playing or editing video continuously, the battery runs out before reaching two hours.
Acer ConceptD 7, the opinion and note of Xataka
The Acer ConceptD family emerged very recently but in just a couple of years it has been consolidated in a powerful way in the catalog of the manufacturer that had previously opted for the gaming sector to revalue its laptops.
The Acer ConceptD 7 is one of the first models of this family that are available in the Spanish market. Its differentiation is sought through design and specifications, something that it achieves especially in the former.
But the great value of this professional-cut laptop is in the 15.6-inch screen, an excellent matte finish and a performance at the level of fidelity and contrast among the highest on the market. In addition, it is united by the 4K resolution for those who need it, although this penalizes it in terms of raw performance and autonomy.
